Morocco's Significant Participation in the 114th International Labor Conference

Morocco's Impact at the International Labor Conference

Morocco is making a notable mark at the 114th International Labor Conference taking place in Geneva from June 1 to June 12, led by a tripartite delegation headed by Younes Sekkouri, the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills. In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency, the minister emphasized that this 'strong and balanced' presence, which includes representatives from the government, business owners, and the most representative trade union centers, reflects the kingdom's position as a 'committed actor within the international system.' He highlighted the significant progress achieved in the area of social dialogue, with more than 50 billion dirhams mobilized for this purpose.

The minister also pointed out the major structural projects Morocco has undertaken under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, particularly the expansion of social protection and the activation of direct support programs for the most vulnerable groups. Regarding the report from the Director-General of the International Labour Organization, Mr. Sekkouri underscored Morocco's capability to adapt to changes related to artificial intelligence and the future of work. He stressed the importance of social dialogue in mitigating potential impacts, particularly in the employment sector, through public policies designed to address the ramifications of these technological transformations.

Commitment to Child Labor Eradication

Mr. Sekkouri expressed confidence that Morocco, bolstered by a deep-rooted culture of dialogue across various sectors, is 'capable of entering this new phase of history with confidence,' despite the challenges ahead. On the sidelines of the conference, the minister is engaging in a series of bilateral meetings, notably with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization, the Director-General of the International Organization for Migration, as well as with counterparts from sister and friendly nations. Additionally, he is participating in a high-level meeting focused on combating child labor. In this context, he noted that Morocco hosted the sixth global conference on this issue earlier this year in Marrakech, showcasing significant progress in reducing the prevalence of child labor, which currently affects only between 1.6 and 1.7 percent of children.

In conclusion, Mr. Sekkouri reaffirmed that Moroccan trade unions participating in Geneva advocate for a Moroccan model based on democracy, human rights, and economic and industrial development ambitions, as illustrated by recent achievements in strategic sectors such as the aerospace industry. He asserted that Morocco is solidifying its position as an 'indispensable player in the international equation,' committed to a developmental path characterized by transparency, collective mobilization, and a clear vision supported at the highest levels of the state.
