Dar Rafiki's Bakery Expands to a New Location in Haverhill

Dar Rafiki's Bakery to Offer Expanded Menu and Seating

Dar Rafiki's, a popular French-Moroccan bakery situated on Main Street in Haverhill, is set to relocate to a larger space later this summer. This exciting move not only signifies an expansion of the bakery's offerings but also heralds the introduction of a cozy seating area and a dedicated breakfast menu for customers to enjoy. Owner Lhoussine Rafiq expressed his enthusiasm about the new bakery and café, which will be located within Academy Plaza on South Main Street, highlighting that the current space is undergoing renovations to transform it into a charming small restaurant.

Rafiq, who has built a reputation for crafting delectable treats since the bakery's inception, promises that patrons can expect some exceptional new delights awaiting them. The name 'Dar Rafiki' translates to 'house of friends' in Arabic, embodying the welcoming atmosphere that Rafiq aims to foster within his establishment. The bakery originally began as a food truck in 2016 before transitioning to a brick-and-mortar location on September 8, 2024, at Dudley Plaza, 389 Main St., Haverhill. Due to limitations in space at the previous location, the bakery has primarily focused on takeout and catering services.

Dar Rafiki's has garnered a loyal customer base due to its unique offerings, including Moroccan chicken shawarma sandwiches, the indulgent Dubai chocolate cake, and their signature cube croissants. Additionally, the bakery is renowned for its impressive array of 32 different French trompe-l’oeil pastries, artfully shaped like various fruits and filled with luscious mousse and fruit chunks. As the bakery prepares to make this significant move, Rafiq has plans to present himself before the Haverhill License Commission to secure a common victualler’s license, ensuring that all appropriate measures are taken for the new establishment. He also anticipates a substantial increase in staffing, potentially doubling or even tripling the current count of 22 employees to meet the expected demand.
